I had tweeted this earlier across multiple tweets, but here is my suggestion for Google in one place:

Okay Google, why not do this: In Chrome, feel free to remove H.264, but make a project on Google Code that would make Chrome play H.264. Then, either keep it that way or recognize the high amount of activity and downloads that code project is getting (of which stats are public) and put support back into Chrome for H.264.
